If – Rudyard Kipling
Rudyard Kipling If If If If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream – and not make dreams your master; If you can... Meaningful Use in HealthCare IT
John Moore recently wrote a great article on whether the government has set EHR goals too high. The government plans to spend an estimated $36.3 million on physician adoption of Electronic Medical Records in the next several years. Phase I is slated to begin in 2011, with the goal of capture and sharing of data. In order to gain buy-in from the small/individual practices, the government is going to need to be much more transparent in defining “meaningful use”. The Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services has outline these 5 broad categories... Read The Rest →
Networking
Ive recently made it my goal to have at least 2 lunches/coffee meetings a week with new people I find interesting, that I look up to. A person who I had breakfast with, a VC here in OC, has this saying “your network is your net worth”. Theres a whole lot of truth in that statement. I’ve sat in on screening sessions where businesses have gotten funded on practically nothing other than the relationships that they have within the industry. Call them what you want “distribution, partnerships, affiliates”… business boils... Read The Rest →
Salveo
SalveoMT is going well. We are stepping up our talks with investors and really solidifying our SasS plan for the medical transcription service. Team building continues to be the biggest challenge. We are continuing doing marketing on a grassroots level. I’m just waiting to get a big deal done with a hospital, so we don’t have to go from individual practice to individual practice soliciting our services. Still working to establish some deals with a county hospital. Sales is taking up most of my time nowadays. I need to hire... Read The Rest →
Health IT Breakfast
I attended a Health IT breakfast event the other week. The panel consisted of a number of seasoned Health IT entrepreneurs, with very similar messages. One of the major themes of the night was the need to have opensource EMR software that are compatible from one hospital setting to another. The problem is similar to that of the PHR market. Too many fragmented and proprietary systems that cannot speak to each other. Luckily, there are a few companies out there that are taking the steps to build free open source... Read The Rest →
Opportunities in Cleantech
I went to a Cleantech Roundtable Discussion today up in Santa Monica which consisted of speakers ranging from Steve Westly to the Mayor of Santa Ana. The talk was kicked off by the moderator asking Steve Westly what he thought were the big opportunities in clean technology. Steve outlined four major areas of opportunities within the next decade: 1. Utilities – Especially as it releates to Smart Grid technology 2. Building Materials 3. Batteries – Esp. for electric vehicles 4. Recycling Cleantech is obviously an area where there will be... Read The Rest →

Poly-phasic Sleep Experiment
I was talking to my buddy Dennis, during one of our Santa Ana River bike rides yesterday evening, about a lifehack experiment that I have been meaning to look more into called polyphasic sleep. The concept is simple.. Instead of sleeping a full 6-8 hour block each night, the idea is to break your sleep patterns in to smaller chunks of 15-45 minute naps and one core sleep period. This allows you to reduce sleep time to 2-6 hours of sleep daily, without dampening your energy level, which if it... Read The Rest →
Desiderata by Max Ehrman
My friend Jon sent me this awesome poem by Max Ehrman Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be... Read The Rest →
